Justin Townes Earle passed away at the age of 38 in 2020. He was a talented singer-songwriter and was the son of musician Steve Earle. On Wednesday, a tribute concert was held in his memory after it was delayed by a year due to the pandemic.
The concert was originally set to be held in 2022 on what would have been Earle’s 40th birthday. It was organized by his father, Steve Earle, who is most known for his music but is also a producer, author and actor. He reunited his former band the Dukes for the performance.
The stage was shared by a number of Earle’s friends and peers including Emmylou Harris, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Amanda Shires, Jason Isbell, Elizabeth Cook and Lilly Hiatt.
Among the setlist were Earle’s original songs including several from his albums Harlem River Blues and Nothing’s Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now, which Rolling Stone listed on its top 50 albums of 2012.
Steve Earle brought the night to a close with his song “Last Words” which he wrote for his son following his death.
Thank you.
